About Putney High School

Putney High School is located in Southwest London. It was founded in 1893 and is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST). Putney High School has won top school awards like the Independent School of the Year award in 2019 and was shortlisted for the same award in 2020 and 2021. 

Is Putney High School good for you?

Putney High School is a day school only that develops students in academics as well as sports. The school is described as being ‘friendly and positive with a good balance of sports, art and music’. 

They have strong links with the Thames Rowing Club and the Lacrosse Club in Putney. 

For those who wish to know more about the school – its facilities and grounds, Putney High School provides a virtual Q&A session and a family tour. Open Afternoon for Sixth Form is usually held on in June, and the Open Day for Junior School will be held on October 8th 2022. 

Admissions

Applications are open for entry into 2023 for 4+ and 7+. The application deadline for 4+ is on Friday, 28th October 2022, while the deadline for 7+ is on Friday, 14th October 2022. 

Two classes of 22 pupils are considered for places in 4+ and additional places are offered for 7+. 

11+ registration for 2023 entry ends Wednesday, 2 November 2022, while that of 16+ will end Wednesday, 5th October 2022 at 12 noon. Offers into Sixth form are based on interview performance, references, school reports, and (I)GCSE results. 

Entrance exams and interviews

Assessment for 4+ is to be held on the 9th to 17th January 2023 and the results are sent at the end of January. The assessment is friendly and informal and will take about an hour.

Assessment for 7+ will be held Friday, 25th November 2022 with the results being sent in January 2023. Pupils will be assessed in English, maths, and non-verbal reasoning. 

Entrance exams for 11+ will be held Friday, 25th November 2022. There will be a bespoke online assessment in Maths and English. Applicants will be invited to sit the exams on either a computer or iPad. The exams will take approximately one hour. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a second assessment on 8th January 2023. This is the final assessment, and it will include a one-to-one interview. 

On Monday, 7th November or Tuesday 8th November shortlisted candidates for Sixth Form will be invited for an interview. The interview consists of two parts – a subject-specific interview with staff and a short session with a member of the Sixth Form team.
