About Queen Elizabeth’s School

The school is state-funded and is one of the oldest schools in the UK with over 449 years in service. Its alumni consists of many notable people including writers, politicians, CEOs and athletes.

Is Queen Elizabeth’s School good for you?

Queen Elizabeth’s School is known for its academic excellence having often ranked as one of the most academically successful secondary schools in England.

It has topped A-level league tables for grammar schools many times and, following an Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills) Inspection in 2022, Queen Elizabeth’s School was declared to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas.

Open day is open to all families with sons of different ages. Early bird booking is available to families who have successfully registered to sit the entrance exams in September 2022 for entry into Year 7. The next Open Day to plan for holds on Thursday, 7th July 2022. You can make your bookings here.

Admissions

The formal point of entry is mainly at 11. External candidates are not allowed into Sixth Form. The school is highly selective, and places are offered based on academic ability determined by tests given by the school.

Registration for entry into Year 7, in September 2023 starts on May 2nd, 2022, and the deadline is July 15th, 2022. The registration process starts with an Entrance Test request form which will be filled out and returned to the school. This form indicates a wish for a boy to sit the selection tests.

Queen Elizabeth’s School participates in a scheme for coordinated admissions, in partnership with Local Authorities. In addition to applying through the school, parents must also submit a Common Application Form to their own Local Authority, by their (Local Authority) published deadline.

In this application, the parent will name Queen Elizabeth’s School as one of the preferred schools. If this isn’t done, even if a candidate passes the Queen Elizabeth’s School common entrance, the local authority will not offer him a place at any stage as no application was made through them. When an admission is made or rejected, it is done by both the Local Authority and Queen Elizabeth’s School.

Parents who wish to have to apply for a place in Years 7-11 at a later stage will only be considered if a vacancy occurs. They are to contact the school for advice and for set arrangements and procedures to follow.

Entrance exams and interviews

Entrance tests will take place on Wednesday, 21st and Thursday, 22nd September 2022. Reserve test will hold on Wednesday, 28th September for boys who could not make it on either 21st or 22nd due to approved reasons.

Candidates will sit two test papers (English and Mathematics) in a single session. Both papers are in multiple-choice formats. Markings and scores will take place between 23rd September to 3rd October and offers will be made by 1st March 2023.
